The Norfolk Land Trust ("NLT"), an all volunteer organization, was created in 1982 to encourage the preservation of natural heritage and open space in Norfolk, Connecticut.  Our resources include pristine water courses, beautiful wetlands, meadows and woodlands, and the plants and animals whose habitat it is.

ur 5th Annual 5k- and 10K-Trail Race will be Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018
Registration is now open.


ur 10-K race is part of the USATF-CT Association Mountain/Ultra/Tl Running Series this year. Common Start and Finish with 10K and 5K Races. Awards and Post-Race Party at Infinity Hall. Every runner gets a free Big Elm Brewing pint glass and a cup of chili. 

Noon: 10K   A challenging loop over Haystack Mountain,  plus  the classic 5K-trail race through Barbour Woods. This course begins on the same route as the 5K, but jumps off of the Sunset Trail onto the South Dam, crosses Rt. 272N and ascends through a grassy meadow onto an intense single track up Norfolk's iconic Haystack Mountain. Summit at the Haystack Tower, and descend down the mountainside on a carriage path to meet up with the Crossover Trail-- a single track that winds along the mountainside and brings you back to the park's main entrance where you will cross over the South Dam, run along a grassy section of old railroad bed and back into the woods onto a beautiful gladed wetland to the finish.
12:15 PM: 5K A challenging and scenic race through picturesque Barbour Woods. The course is a mixture of single and double track. Climb up Beech Hill for a view of Haystack Mountain, run on carriage roads beside historic Killarney Bridge, descend down the dry dam to a flat stretch of railroad bed, ascend through woodlands and finally along a gladed wetland, known as the Swamp Trail to the finish.
In the event of severe and dangerous weather, the race will be canceled 24 hours in advance. Check the website for updates. Pre-registration will be good for next year's race.
