BIG ELM’S FAMILY TREE
At the very root of Big Elm Brewing you will find the founders and owners Christine Bump & Bill Heaton. Christine and Bill started Big Elm over a decade ago and have continued to work hard to nurture and grow the brewery into what it is today.
Christine & Bill met while working for Victory Brewing Company in 2003. Christine has a BS in Chemistry and a certificate in Brewing Technology from the Siebel Institute and the Doemens Academy. Bill has a degree in graphic design and years of experience in the brewing industry. With this background they opened Pittsfield Brew Works in 2005.
After five years in the brewpub business, they decided to get back to their roots and start a production brewery. It took some time, but with a ton of help and support from their friends and families they found their new home just as they were about to give up. 65 Silver St. needed a bit of elbow grease but in the fall of 2012, Bill and Christine brewed their first batch of beer, 413 Farmhouse Ale.
Since then Big Elm has been focused on fresh quality beer, a welcoming environment, and community involvement. We want to thank everyone who has helped us get to this point and continues to support us.
