We value your opinion and would love your feedback and suggestions!

Our main lineup of signature six brews as well as our staple seltzers can be found in stores, restaurants and venues across the Berkshires.

BIG ELM BEER

We produce beer year round, everything from our staple six brews: American Lager, 413 Farmhouse Ale, Black Sheep IPA, Gerry Dog Stout, Lion’s Ale & Fat Boy, to our smaller seasonal batches and limited release/taproom only brews.

🌳 REDUCED GLUTEN 🌳

All of our beers are crafted to reduce gluten! This is done by using an enzyme added during fermentation that breaks up the gluten proteins reducing the gluten to below 20 ppm making the beer a better option for those sensitive to gluten.

BERKSHIRE HARD SELTZER

We also produce Hard Seltzer year round, including our three signature flavors: Lavender Lemonade, Grapefruit Hibiscus, and Strawberry Watermelon as well as occasional limited release/taproom only bubbles.

🌳 GLUTEN FREE 🌳

All of our hard seltzers are gluten free!

BIG ELM’S FAMILY TREE

At the very root of Big Elm Brewing you will find the founders and owners Christine Bump & Bill Heaton. Christine and Bill started Big Elm over a decade ago and have continued to work hard to nurture and grow the brewery into what it is today.

Christine & Bill met while working for Victory Brewing Company in 2003.  Christine has a BS in Chemistry and a certificate in Brewing Technology from the Siebel Institute and the Doemens Academy. Bill has a degree in graphic design and years of experience in the brewing industry.  With this background they opened Pittsfield Brew Works in 2005.

After five years in the brewpub business, they decided to get back to their roots and start a production brewery. It took some time, but with a ton of help and support from their friends and families they found their new home just as they were about to give up.  65 Silver St. needed a bit of elbow grease but in the fall of 2012, Bill and Christine brewed their first batch of beer, 413 Farmhouse Ale.

Since then Big Elm has been focused on fresh quality beer, a welcoming environment, and community involvement.  We want to thank everyone who has helped us get to this point and continues to support us.

At the end of our street on the side of Route 7 there is a plaque that commemorates the "big elm" of Sheffield.  This is where the massive tree that gives us our name stood for almost 400 years.  Before there was a town hall the people of Sheffield would meet under the tree which could give shade to hundreds.  While the tree no longer stands, we hope to embody the spirit of what it meant by giving people something with which to gather around and enjoy each others' company.

At Big Elm we have alway treated our pets like family and involve them in any way that we can! Some live on fur-ever, immortalized on our stout cans, while other still enjoy their time at the brewery, especially the treats.

In 2018 we made the decision to go solar. We were able to install 3 fully rotating solar panels right out in front of our brewery! These panels track the sun throughout the day to maximize their efficiency. We also had a passive solar water heater installed on the roof to aid in heating our water for brewing purposes. This is something that we had wanted to do since the beginning and we are very excited that we are able to utilize the power of the sun now!!

Big Elm Pet Calendar is coming soon! $5 from every sale will go to the Berkshire Humane Society
